Acoustic Analysis as a Part of Risk Management

Michaela Balážiková, Juraj Sinay

Acta Mechanica Slovaca 2014, 18(1):6-12 | DOI: 10.21496/ams.2014.001

The paper focuses on the area of risk management and includes a safety analysis of individual threats. Noise as a physical factor also belongs among individual hazards. In general, risk management is related to the architecture of an effective management of individual risks (principles, structure and processes), while the control of risk involves the application of this architecture to a particular risk; in this case, the acoustic risk. The paper describes a legislative framework concerning the safety and health protection at work as well as the safety of technical equipment with regard to obligations of the employer prescribed by law. An important...

Validation of Numerically Simulated Rapid-prototype Model by Photoelastic Coating

Peter Ficzere, Lajos Borbas, Adam Torok

Acta Mechanica Slovaca 2014, 18(1):14-24 | DOI: 10.21496/ams.2014.002

The role of prototypes has increased considerably, especially functional prototypes, with the help of which the parts can be examined under the working conditions. Recently has been realised that the demand for functional prototypes and the use of built-in rapid prototypes in small series production and medical science have increased significantly. It became necessary to be able to decide whether the certain model can be used in its real load conditions in its application network. In more complicated cases even finite element analysis is need to be carried out. For the correct results at numerical simulation - assuming the exact knowledge of the loads...

The importance of the utilization of software tools when designing production systems is above exception. The current market offers a great deal of options. This article deals with the comparison of two software tools - Plant Simulation and VisTable. It also points to selection criteria you can take into consideration when you are making decision on which product is the most appropriate for your business.

Supporting of the Company Strategy Through ERP System

Jozef Kováč, Jaroslava Kádárová

Acta Mechanica Slovaca 2014, 18(1):32-36 | DOI: 10.21496/ams.2014.004

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are highly complex business information systems. The implementation of these systems requires a high cost, company time and resources. This article identifies supporting of the company strategy through the ERP system. Successful implementation of the business strategy should be supported by an appropriate ERP system. An empirical and research study of an implementation process of company strategy through ERP system is presented and discussed in terms of the key factors. Our attention is focused on the most critical areas of ERP systems and implementation process of the company strategy the abstract section.

Options to Evaluate The Effects of a Change in the Shape of the Flow Cross-Section of a Ball Valve on Its Flow Control Properties

Peter Lukáč, Peter Horbaj, Jarmila Sedláková

Acta Mechanica Slovaca 2014, 18(1):38-43 | DOI: 10.21496/ams.2014.005

This article examines the possibility of the application of numerical methods in the determination of valve characteristics. Using a prototype ball valve with an elliptical closing element as an example, comparisons were made between the measured and numerically simulated flow rate and pressure differential values of the valve. This method can be applied in the process of designing the control characteristics of valves.

Acta Mechanica Slovaca 2014, 18(1):44-48 | DOI: 10.21496/ams.2014.006

The paper focuses on the area software application that helps businesses to significantly increase the production efficiency and the amount of production of products that allows to identify and to quantify the exact causes of production losses caused by inefficient use of their production facilities. The application allows manufacturers to track and analyze the effectiveness of their overall production downtime and machinery, production lines and other equipment in production and obtain as follows detailed information on the efficiency of the production and possible shortcomings with the acquisition in real time directly from the production facilities...

Tariq Rahman, Joseph Basante, Michael Alexander

Acta Mechanica Slovaca 2014, 18(1):50-57 | DOI: 10.21496/ams.2014.007

Therapeutic techniques for people with movement disorders are described along with technology that can be used to mitigate the symptoms. Disorders that affect movement include muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, cerebral palsy and others. The article discusses conventional occupation therapy techniques currently used and robotic and orthotic devices that are seen in a research and clinical setting. First the neuromuscular disease presentation is described. Next the current assistive technology techniques and devices are outlined. Finally, robots and orthoses for the upper and lower extremity are described in terms of effectiveness and cost....

Władysław Papacz, Janusz Walkowiak, Peter Frankovský

Acta Mechanica Slovaca 2014, 18(1):58-63 | DOI: 10.21496/ams.2014.008

The paper presents the device of the fatigue tests in the complex load states. The measuring system can measure and record the temperature of the elements tested, the number of fatigue cycles, twisting and bending angles of the sample and its load. The device is used to test the fatigue strength of elements of the carrying structures of the vehicles and machines cophasally loaded with the bending and twisting moments.

Ondřej Zavila, Marian Bojko, Milada Kozubková, Pavel Danihelka, Barbora Baudišová, Lenka Maléřová, Mária Čarnogurská

Acta Mechanica Slovaca 2014, 18(1):64-70 | DOI: 10.21496/ams.2014.009

The article presents the results of a numerical CFD model of gas ammonia plume motion and dispersion after an accidental release from a real ice stadium situated in an urban area. The CFD analysis was performed using the ANSYS Fluent 14.0 for two seasons and eight wind directions. Sixteen tasks emerged, the results of which can define the influence of meteorological conditions (wind direction, wind speed, temperature, etc.) and surrounding buildings on the motion and dispersion of pollutant plume. The simulation was performed with real local meteorological data. The numerical model had been verified by tasks performed in a low-speed wind tunnel. The...

Simulations of Starting and Braking of the Chainsaw

Lubomír Pešík, Antonín Skarolek

Acta Mechanica Slovaca 2014, 18(1):72-74 | DOI: 10.21496/ams.2014.010

Chainsaws are devices that exhibit intense dynamic effects. Their duty cycle can be divided into several stages. In particular: start-up, operational run and run-down. During each stage the engine unit is connected to or disconnected from the working part through centrifugal clutch. When driven by internal combustion engine, the unfavourable vibrations occur at the handles due to unevenness of its run. Chainsaw manufacturers pay special attention to emergency braking in critical situations. Time necessary for chain to stop from encountering the first emergency trigger is taken as a measure of effectiveness of the breaking system. To assess specific...

Acta Mechanica Slovaca 2014, 18(1):76-81 | DOI: 10.21496/ams.2014.011

Affordable and balanced diet programmes gain popularity; hence major food manufacturers are interested in making inexpensive quality products. Very often, production of dietary foods requires nutritional powders with higher percentage of healthy ingridients. Therefore, the development of functional food powders is very perspective for the food industry. The variety of food powders allows their usage in production of different types of food. These food products are a source of biologically active substances such as vitamins, macro- and micronutrients. These elements are contained in an easily digestible form and in optimal proportions for the human...

Acta Mechanica Slovaca 2014, 18(1):82-86 | DOI: 10.21496/ams.2014.012

The paper presents a methodology developed by the author for reconstructing surfaces of shaping punches and die blocks. It involves the use of specialised tools available in a commercial CAD system. These are the tools that are used to adjust selected surfaces of the geometricmodel of a part to the cloud of points representing the surface of the part, which may be obtained from a scan. The usefulness of these tools is examined usinga punch used in the automotive industry as an example.
