AB The paper defines the scope and character of the surface layer of castings made of selected types of cast iron with special consideration of on spheroidal cast iron. The study also showed that on the basis of the distribution of hardness along the casting core, it is possible to define the distribution of structures and the reach of the surface layer of a cast iron casting.
